In the mid-2000s, Chairman Chang-Woo Han paid visits to several countries in Southeast Asia to explore new business opportunities as well as to help the economy and people of a chosen country prosper. Chairman Han was particularly interested in Cambodia, as he felt that the country had great potential after experiencing difficult times during its civil war. Chairman Chang-Woo Han found a similar scene to the one he experienced growing up in Japan in the 1950s. Tokyo was little more than a provincial town only 140 years ago. Even harder to imagine is how it was devastated by one of the century’s worst earthquakes in 1923, and how afterward it would feel the effect of a disastrous war.
